TORAJAMELO Foundation

We believe in a world where the hands that weave are honored, and the women behind the loom are able to live with dignity. Where traditional culture doesn’t die off, but thrives—sustained by respect, fair income, and opportunity.

At the core of our mission is the drive to end poverty in rural Indonesia, where many women rely on back-strap looms to craft the intricate textiles that have defined the region for centuries. These weavers face countless challenges: economic hardship, limited access to resources, and the pressures of rural migration. Our work focuses on ensuring these women do not have to leave their homes to secure their futures. Through our efforts, we are creating opportunities that enable them to stay in their communities, support their families, and continue their craft in a sustainable way.

Our approach is deeply rooted in two vital pillars: preserving Indonesia’s rich heritage of hand-woven textiles and enabling women weavers with sustainable livelihoods. By fostering economic independence, we are not only providing a means of survival, but also empowering these women to thrive, maintain their cultural identity, and pass on their skills to the next generation.

TORAJAMELO stands as both a beacon and a bridge — a symbol of dignity, resilience, and creative pride for the artisans and communities it works with. It embodies the preservation of heritage while opening doors to new opportunities, proving that tradition and innovation can thrive together. For these communities, TORAJAMELO is not just a brand, but a partner in their journey toward self-reliance, cultural celebration, and a future shaped by their own hands.

Heritage is a living story

Our work celebrates Indonesia’s indigenous traditions by ensuring that weaving and artisanal knowledge are passed down through generations. Each thread carries the wisdom of ancestors while inspiring pride and dignity in the present.

“In our mission to unite the world through sustainability, we stand with women and their communities, enabling them to turn challenges into opportunities and dreams into lasting change.”
